Turkey earthquake measuring a magnitude-5.7 rocked got earthquake with on Wednesday (11/08/2011) evening local time. At least three people were killed and more were trapped under collapsed buildings.
Seismic vibrations were destroying at least seven buildings including two hotels and 14 other buildings in the city of the city of Van. In local television mentioned the possibility of at least 100 people still trapped under the ruins of collapsed buildings considering there are about 70 people who stay at one hotel.
Meanwhile 11 people so far has been rescued from the ruins of the hotel. In local television showed panic people running into the street. Meanwhile ambulances rushed into the city of Van with the sound and siren blaring.
The earth quake occurred three weeks after an earthquake measuring magnitude-7.6 hit Ercis, or about 60 miles from the city of Van. Previous earthquake killed nearly 600 people. And about 20,000 people were killed by two major earthquakes that struck western Turkey in 1999.
Deputy Prime Minister Besir Atalay and Health Minister Recep Akdag claimed to be ready to travel into the area along with other rescue teams.
